China Favors Hybrids Over Diesels
In the auto industry where green vehicles are becoming more and more popular, automakers are now developing vehicles which produce very little amounts of greenhouse gases. Japanese automakers are known for their hybrid cars such as the Prius which is manufactured by Toyota. On the other hand, European automakers are focusing on the development of clean diesel engines.
In China though, the government has recently announced that diesel engines will no longer receive preferential policies. That is according to an official from the national Development and Reform Commission in China.
Yang Yongxin, an official from the Industry Policy Department of NDRC, told China Business News: “With all things considered, we’ve decided to remove diesel engine powered sedans from the catalogue.” Although the said move was done, it does not mean that the country is no longer doing its share in the move towards a greener auto industry. China will be encouraging the development of gas electric hybrid vehicles.
Apart from electric powered vehicles, the Chinese government will also be encouraging automakers to develop vehicles which can run on alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas, and hydrogen. Hydrogen powered vehicles are already being developed by […]
